Unprecedented Medical Oxygen Support Services
Program of IEB - MAX GROUP

In recent times, we are witnessing an alarming surge of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases throughout the country. The hospitals and clinics of the country are getting overwhelmed with coronavirus-positive patients. Many COVID-19 positive patients are dying every day in the hospitals; in their residence or, even on the road while carrying out to the hospitals. As a result, the requirements for adequate medical supports especially Oxygen, ICU, etc. are also increasing worryingly. In this context, The Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) and MAX GROUP has taken a joint program to supply one thousand medical oxygen-filled cylinders throughout the country. The inauguration ceremony of this groundbreaking initiative was held at the Council Hall of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), Headquarters, Ramna, Dhaka-1000, on Sunday; 18 July 2021. Ruling Awami League’s joint general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif MP graced the inauguration ceremony as the chief guest whereas, Dr. Md. Murad Hassan MP, State Minister, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting was present there as the special guest. Engr. Md. Abdus Sabur, Immediate past President, IEB & Secretary, Science and Technology Affairs, Bangladesh Awami League, Engr. Md. Nurul Huda, President IEB, Engr. Md. Nuruzzaman, Vice-President (HRD), IEB, and Engr. Md. Shahadat Hossain (Shiblu), PEng., Honorary General Secretary, IEB also attended the inauguration ceremony whereas, Engr. Ghulam Mohammed Alomgir, Chairman, MAX GROUP & Executive Vice-Chairman, ERC, Dhaka joined the ceremony virtually through Zoom Meeting. The chief guest Mahbubul Alam Hanif MP told that Bangladesh has recently graduated from the least developing country status to the developing country status, therefore, the resources of our country are limited. However, with this limited resource, the Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina MP is combatting the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Diseases in such a manner that the lives of the countrymen remain safe yet the economy of the country stay operational. Applauding the humanitarian initiative taken by IEB - MAX GROUP, Mahbubul Alam Hanif MP requested the industrialist and businessmen to come forward and assist the Hon’ble Prime Minister financially in this battle against COVID-19. The special guest Dr. Md. Murad Hassan MP, during his speech, sincerely thanked IEB and MAX GROUP for such an in-time approach. He, mentioning that the government will always remain in favor of such philanthropic activities, opined that there will be no crisis of oxygen or any other medical equipment in the country if companies like MAX GROUP extend their helping arms. Engr. Ghulam Mohammed Alomgir, Chairman, MAX GROUP & Executive Vice-Chairman, ERC, Dhaka told that in India, many moneyed people roamed with their bags full of money but failed to manage an oxygen cylinder for them a few days ago. To save Bangladesh from such wreaking-havoc, MAX GROUP contacted IEB with a proposal to provide free oxygen support to those who are in dire need of that and IEB agreed immediately. He mentioned that the approximate budget of this initiative is around 3 Crore BDT which will be borne by MAX GROUP. He also mentioned that his company has handed over a cheque of 3 Crore BDT to the Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh to battle against COVID-19 last year, besides, his company is spending a Crore BDT each month to conduct the COVID test of his employees working in Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant and other GOB projects. Mentioning Sheikh Hasina MP as a business-friendly prime minister, Engr. Alomgir said that the businessmen of this country are now in a good shape because of the present government, therefore, it’s the right of the countrymen to get assistance from them in this crisis period. Finally, he requested to consider the engineers who are directly taking part in different development activities as frontline workers and give them priority in giving COVID vaccines.
